A Rivers state High Court sitting in Ahoada, has granted bail to Mr Chidi Lloyd, detained leader of the Rivers state legislature.
Lloyd, who represents Emohua constituency in the Assembly, handed himself to the police in Abuja, following the crisis that rocked the Assembly on July 9 and July 10.
He was declared wanted for alleged attempted murder by the police.
He was however arraigned before a Port Harcourt high court on July 31 while the case was adjourned to Aug. 6 for hearing.
The presiding judge, Justice Charles Wali, granted the detained legislator bail following an exparte motion filed by the legislator’s counsel, praying the Court to grant him bail on health grounds.
Ruling on the exparte motion, Wali ordered that a motion on notice be served to the Rivers State Police Command and Force Headquarters in Abuja.
Meanwhile, the factional Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the state, Mr Felix Obuah, said the party was not happy with the bail granted Lloyd.
Obuah, in a statement issued by his media adviser, Jerry Needam, said, “This is a vindication of our fears and alarm that Mr Michael Chindah cannot get justice in Rivers State”.
Chindah, a legislator, was a victim of the clash that took place in the Assembly on July 9.
