The Katsina state government on Friday released no fewer than 100 prisoners from the Daura prisons in the state yesterday.
While speaking at Daura prison when he secured the release of some inmates, the Special Adviser to the governor on Community Development, Abubakar Bindawa, explained that the state government secured their release by paying their fines.
He disclosed that each of the released prisoners was given N10,000 as start-up capital to set up small business, noting the inmates were freed at various times from different prisons across the state.
Bindawa, who chairs a special committee on prison decongestion, said his committee visited all the prisons across the state and collected data of those in jail for what could be regarded as minor offences.
