Defending champions Nigeria are set to defend their African badminton title in Mauritius.

The African badminton championship began on Wednesday (yesterday) and ends on August 22.

Nigeria, who won the title at the 2011 All Africa Games, are being represented by 10 players, six male, four female and three officials.

The team left the country on Monday to begin the defence of their title but they will face stiff opposition from hosts Mauritius and South Africa, who trained in China for the tournament.

The President of the Badminton Federation of Nigeria, Danlami Senchi, is in Mauritius to give morale support to the team while vice chairman, Francis Orbih, who is also the leader of the Nigerian delegation, is expected in the Indian Ocean Island on Friday.
