The Nigerian Medical Association (NMA) has called on its members to shun the industrial action embarked on by health workers across the nation on Wednesday, and ensure that they remain at their duty posts.
The directive was given by the NMA president, Dr Osahon Enabulele, in a statement made available to the press.
According to him, the association got information that plans were being made by some hospital support staff to prevent Nigerian doctors from providing health care services in public hospitals in Nigeria.
Enabulele said all doctors have been directed to remain at their duty posts and to work relentlessly to render uninterrupted services, particularly for emergency cases, in all public hospitals.
The NMA president noted that despite the fact that the association’s demands for better health care services in the country were yet to be met by the Federal Government, the association would continue to promote “professionalism, patient-centred care and development initiatives with positive impact on the health of Nigerians.”
