The Osun State Internal Revenue Service has sealed-off the administrative complex of the Obafemi Awolowo University Teaching Hospital complex (OAUTH), Ile-Ife over Pay-As-You-Earn (PAYE) tax default of over N3.1billion,  on the heels of a directive from a State High Court.

In a letter of notice addressed to the Chief Medical Director of the institution, Professor Sanya Adejuyigbe dated 11 January 2013 with reference number TI/NBDIE/2006-2011/88 signed by Mr. Olufemi Balogun, Senior Special Adviser on Revenue Service had approached the institution seeking payment of outstanding liabilities for PAYE, withholding taxes, development levies and business premises renewal permit due to the state between 2006 and 2011 amounting to N3, 178,490.441.24k.

Before the clamp, the revenue service of the state government had conducted a back duty assessment of the federal agencies, state agencies and private institutions where it was discovered that OAUTH failed to remit the taxes deducted from its staff to the state covers for over six years covering 2006 to 2011.

The revenue service was said to have given the health institution – in a letter dated 24th June 2013-  7days within which to effect the payment of withheld taxes or rather object the assessed liability within 30 days as provided under PITA laws.
