Rivers Crisis: FG Poised to Eliminate Amaechi - disnaija.com

Categories: Nigeria News

It was a stunning revelation made even more spectacular by its brazenness, but the planned decision by the Inspector General of Police, Muhammad Abubakar to transfer all police officers from Port Harcourt, including those attached to Rivers State Governor, Rotimi Amaechi, will be unprecedented; if and when it is actually implemented. The massive purge of the security apparatus has the dangerous potential of not only destabilizing the State, but the machinations will inevitably leave Amaechi expose, as a potential assassination target.

Huhuonline.com has learnt from close sources to the President that the Inspector General of Police has been ordered to fine-tune plans to transfer all police officers from Port Harcourt, including those attached to the Governor. The move comes against the backdrop of increasing clamors for the removal of the State Police Commissioner, Joseph Mbu for his role in the unfolding and never-ending Rivers crisis. With no signs of compromise, it appears the Presidency is bent on getting rid of Amaechi as the crisis between Amaechi and known loyalists of President Goodluck Jonathan takes another turn for the worse.

It was not certain when the announcement will be made; and whether the new security officials will be drafted immediately to Rivers State, but it is clear that the Presidency has sanctioned the controversial move. A spokesman for the Governor however dismissed the planned move as an “act of political desperation” which he said was not unconnected with the Presidency’s obsession with the politics of 2015. He said the people of Rivers will take the necessary disposition to protect their Governor, saying they will not be intimidated. More details to follow…
