A former Commissioner for Information and former Chairman Nigeria Union of Journalists,Ogun State chapter,Chief Soniran Sowemimo died today at the age of 71 years.
His death was confirmed at the Federal Medical Centre,Idi aba, Abeokuta where he was rushed after he slumped early this morning at the city’s Sport Club in Oke Ilewo.
He was a member of the club.
Sowemimo was the regent to the Alake of Egbaland and he was appointed twice to serve as Commissioner in the State.
He also served as a Chief Press Secretary to several military administrators in the State.
Governor Ibikunle Amosun has commiserated with the family.
He described the deceased as a leader n the field of journalism whose wealth of wisdom will be highly missed, according to a statement issued by Funmi Wakama, the governor’s special assistant on media.
“The death came as a rude shock to us and we just have to take it. Chief Sowemimo left when we dearly need his wealth of experience,not only in the field of journalism but also in governance.A big fish has gone in the State and we will miss him a lot.I want to on behalf of myself and the good people of Ogun State commiserate with the family,friends and associates and pray that God will give us all the fortitude to bear the irreparable loss”, added the statement.
Burial arrangement will soon be announced by the family.
