The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Honourable Aminu Tambuwal has restated that the House is working on a legislation to check the rising network of oil thieves in the country. To deal decisively with the matter, the speaker called for collaboration between African, Caribbean, Pacific and European Union (ACP-EU) at the conclusion of the tenth regional parliamentary meeting in Abuja, to help checkmate the country’s shortfall in revenue. Tambuwal said the economic challenges, oil theft and bunkering posed a serious threat not only to Nigeria, but for Africa and the globe, stressing that the menace has led to a proliferation of violence and terrorist acts across the country. The national assembly had earlier revealed that the country loses about 300,000 barrels of crude oil per day, which translates to a loss of one billion dollars every month.
