The trial of the embattled Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Honourable Adeyemi Kuforiji and his personal assistant, Mr Oyebode Atoyebi, over money laundering charges before a Federal High Court sitting in Lagos was stalled on Tuesday as the prosecuting counsel, Chief Godwin Obla, withdrew from the case.

The court was informed at a resumed hearing by a senior counsel with the EFCC, Mr Alli M. Yussuf, of Obla’s withdrawal and his subsequent replacement.

Yussuf told the court presided over by Justice Okechukwu Okeke that he was compelled to appear in the case following the withdrawal of Obla who had been handling the case since inception.

According to him, his predecessor had, in his notice of withdrawal as prosecuting counsel, attributed it to the various days totalling 13 days in the month of April which the court fixed for the hearing of the matter, stating that these dates would considerably constrain his ability to diligently prosecute the matter.
