According to this report from Vanguard, Pensioners of Imo Broadcasting Corporation, IBC, are appealing to the state government to pay their pension arrears, which have now run into 34 months.

“We have suffered untold hardship, extreme poverty, acute neglect, hunger, disease and eventual death of some of our members in the past months. I do not know how many more would go before succour will come our way,” spokesman of the pensioners, Mr. Lugard Igwe told Vanguard.

The pensioners who had at various times, taken their protest to the Catholic Archbishop of Owerri Ecclesiastical Province, Dr. Anthony J.V. Obinna, urging him to speak to Governor Rochas Okorocha on their behalf still holds on to the hope of getting paid someday while they watch part of them die of hunger and various lacks.

Governor of Imo State Owelle Anayo Rochas Okorocha had earlier set up a committee headed by the then Chief of Staff, now deputy governor, Prince Eze Madumere, to look into how best the problems could be solved, but no action has been taken on the issue as it is unclear whether the committee headed by the man who probably had been busy holding other meetings and consultations during the impeachment proceedings of his predecessor, had submitted its report.
