The Nigerian police in Delta state on Friday confirmed the recovery of three corpses along the Benin-Onitsha Expressway in Agbor, near Asaba.

The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) of the state’s Police Command, Mr Lucky Uyabeme, said the bodies, all men, were found along the expressway early on April 8, saying that that the perpetrators might have committed the act on Sunday night. The bodies were found amid speculations that Dr Chudi Nwike, a former Deputy Governor of Anambra might have been killed by his abductors in Delta.

The PPRO said that before his abduction, Nwike actually reported receiving a threat letter from an unknown person, noting that no sooner was Nwike kidnapped when the corpses were found in Agbor.

Uyabeme said that the corpses had been deposited at the Agbor Central Hospital mortuary and that as at moment none of the corpses had been identified.

According to him the police cannot on its own say whether or not the former deputy governor of Anambra is one of the corpses

“As it is, we cannot declare that the former deputy governor is dead because we don’t even know him, unless his family members come to confirm that he is the one”.

Uyabeme said that investigations were on to unravel what actually happened and to bring the killers of the three men to book.
