{"id":2095,"date":"2013-04-13T17:41:03","date_gmt":"2013-04-13T17:41:03","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/disnaija.com\/nigeria-news\/shell-oil-well-spills-in-bayelsa-community\/"},"modified":"2013-04-13T17:41:03","modified_gmt":"2013-04-13T17:41:03","slug":"shell-oil-well-spills-in-bayelsa-community","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/disnaija.com\/shell-oil-well-spills-in-bayelsa-community\/","title":{"rendered":"Shell Oil well spills in Bayelsa community"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"fb-like-box\" data-href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/DisNaija\" data-width=\"292\" data-show-faces=\"false\" data-stream=\"false\" data-header=\"true\"><\/div>\n<div class=\"fb-like\" data-href=\"http:\/\/disnaija.com\" data-send=\"true\" data-width=\"200\" data-show-faces=\"false\" data-action=\"recommend\"><\/div>\n<p><em><strong>By Citizensplatform<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<p><strong><em><\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>A fresh oil spill from a well belonging Shell Petroleum Development Company (SPDC) in the Ewelesuo community Bayelsa State has reportedly occurred.<\/p>\n<p>According to reports, the spill was noticed in the early hours of Friday and has covered the river, mangrove swamp and waterways of the Nembe Kingdom.<\/p>\n<p>The spillage has polluted the source of drinking water and impacted negatively on fishing activities, the means of livelihood of the people of that area.<\/p>\n<p>Contacted on the development, the Chairman of the Oil and Gas Committee of Nembe Kingdom, Chief Nengi James said though he has prevailed on the people of the kingdom against any unlawful action against the company, he is worried by the incessant cases of oil spillages in the kingdom and the poor attitude of the SPDC towards such spills.<\/p>\n<p>Chief James said Oil spillages are not cleaned up by the Oil Company and this pollution has led to health complications for the people.
