Ballot boxes belonging to Nigeria’s Independent National Electoral Commission were among the items engulfed by an inferno at the Lagos office of the National Population Commission in Surulere, Lagos.<\/p>\n

The fire started at about 3.15 p.m at the Babs Animashaun Street office of the NPC. The ballot boxes were stored there.<\/p>\n

The Lagos State Director of Fire Services, Mr Rasaq Fadipe, said fire fighters and fire engines from Fire Service Departments in Isolo, Ilupeju and Sari-Iganmu, were battling to contain the inferno.<\/p>\n

“The spill-over from the fire had affected a nearby building, but the fire-fighters were able to bring the situation under control shortly after their arrival.<\/p>\n

“Our men are now battling to bring the fire in the building housing the ballot boxes under control,\u2019\u2019 he said.<\/p>\n

Fadipe, however, added that there was no casuality.<\/p>\n
