Dana Air recommenced Port Harcourt flights on Monday, expanding its operations for the first time beyond Lagos – Abuja route since the airline returned into the skies on 4 January.

The decision to recommence flight operations on Lagos – Port Harcourt and Abuja – Port Harcourt routes was influenced by frequent passengers’ requests, the airline said.

“Since resuming operations to Abuja, we’ve been receiving a lot of requests from our frequent fliers asking us to commence operations, and we are very happy to be able to offer them the same world class service that we’ve been offering on the Lagos Abuja route,” said Tony Usidamen, Dana Head of Corporate Communications.

Dana flies five times from Lagos to Abuja and five times from Abuja to Lagos every day, and has now added four daily flights on Lagos – Port Harcourt and Abuja – Port Harcourt routes.

Dana said it is eyeing Calabar next as more passengers regain faith in the airline and a need to expand to more routes becomes necessary.

“This for us is a step in the right direction. We are looking to in the coming month relaunch operations to Calabar like we were doing before, and to more cities within the country.

“We are very optimistic that as word gets out that Dana has recommenced operations (in Port Harcourt), the travelling public who has come to develop a lot of faith in the airline will definitely come back to fly us,” Usidamen said.

Dana said it will be acquiring some Boeing 737 aircraft at the end of the third quarter of this year in accordance with their expansion plans.

Dana currently has four MD-83 planes in its fleet and is in need of newer and more fuel efficient planes.

Dana’s first flight from Lagos to Port Harcourt left at about 12 noon yesterday, with most passengers being journalists and aviation regulators.

The flight was smooth and returned to Lagos at about 3pm with few passengers and journalists.

“It was a good flight. The take off and landing were good,” said a passenger.
