The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) Governors Forum (PDPGF) yesterday disclosed that it has concluded a comprehensive appraisal of the nation’s security challenges and made far reaching recommendations which would be submitted to President Goodluck Jonathan and all the affected security agencies soon. It emerged yesterday also that the PDP governors had resolved to broker truce between President Jonathan and Governor Rotimi Amaechi of Rivers state, who have had a no-love-lost relationship in recent time.

Chairman of the PDPGF and the Akwa-Ibom state governor, Chief Godswill Akpabio, who addressed newsmen after the meeting which lasted over three hours disclosed that the five-man security committee chaired by the Adamawa state governor, Admiral Mutala Nyako, did an indept report that ex- rayed the security situation in the country. This is coming as there are indications that the Chairman of the Nigeria Governors Forum (NGF) and Rivers state governor, Rotimi Amaechi, may have bowed to Akpabio’s leadership of the PDPGF as he turned up for the meeting of the governors on the platform of he party.

The NGF chairman had shunned the first two meetings of the PDPGF only to turn-up yesterday at the one attended by eighteen PDP governors. It would be recalled that the Rivers PDP Executive Council allegedly loyal to Amaechi was recently outlawed by an Abuja High Court while the one suspected to be loyal to the Minister of State for Education, Nysom Wike, was inaugurated in its place.
It was gathered that the NGF chairman may have resolved to make peace with the party’s leadership by acknowledging the leadership of the newly formed PDPGF.
It was also gathered that the Rivers state governor may have resolved to use the leadership of the PDPGF to reach out to President Goodluck Jonathan in order to break the political ice currently causing a frosty relationship between the duo.
Speaking about the governors’ report on the challenges of insecurity in the country, Akpabio’s said “we are very certain that if well implemented, the report will bring succor to the youth of the country including even provision of jobs and also the resolution of some of the communal clashes that we experience in some parts of the country.”
The PDPGF chairman also disclosed that the report of the reconciliation of the PDP stakeholders in the South-west by the committee chaired by the Katsina state governor, Ibrahim Shema, has been submitted. He assured that those aggrieved in the region would be fully reconciled in the next few weeks.
Commenting on the situation in the PDP, Akpabio’s said “We looked at the situation of our party and we are hopeful that come 2015, we (governors) will increase In number.
