President Goodluck Jonathan, blaming Boko Haram insurgency, said on Saturday in Jos that Nigeria is facing its worst security challenges in recent times.<\/p>\n

To surmount the problem, he called for prayers from churches. He however also spoke about government’s readiness to tackle the challenge.<\/p>\n

President Jonathan’s speech was read by the Minister of Water Resources, Mrs Sarah Ochekpe, at the launch of N2.5 billion Endowment Fund for the proposed Karl Kumm University (KKU) of the Church of Christ In Nigeria (COCIN).<\/p>\n

He commended the church for its education programmes, pledging the Federal Government\u2019s determination to ensure that every Nigerian child would have access to quality education.<\/p>\n

The president noted that the government, in its drive to promote quality education, had built 12 federal universities in states that never had federal universities.<\/p>\n

“I am convinced that with your effort and that of government, no Nigerian child will be without education,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

Jonathan called for more prayers from the men of God for those in authority, quoting from 1st Timothy 2:1-2 to buttress his request.<\/p>\n

“Though weeping may endure for a night but joy comes in the morning,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n

He expressed the hope that the security challenges facing the country would soon be a thing of the past.<\/p>\n

Besides, Jonathan said that the Federal Government had started investigating reports of excesses of some security personnel with a view to bringing the culprits to book.<\/p>\n

The Guest Speaker at the occasion, Prof Jerry Gana, lauded the idea behind setting up the university.<\/p>\n

Gana, who is a former Minister of Information, however, advised the university\u2019s authorities to always emphasise merit in its admission policy.<\/p>\n

Others who spoke at the occasion included Gov. Jonah Jang of Plateau, the Speaker of Plateau House of Assembly, as well as the representatives of the Senate President and the Speaker of the House of Representatives.<\/p>\n

Former Gov. Joshua Dariye of Plateau made the highest donation of N15 million, Gov. Babangida Aliyu of Niger donated N10 million, while Gov Jang donated N10 million.<\/p>\n
