The Lagos State Government has inaugurated the 4th Lagos Children’s Parliament, an initiative designed to ensure the participation of children and the younger generation on issues that affects their well being.

Inaugurating the parliament in her office, the Deputy Governor Adejoke Orelope-Adefulire said that the children’s parliament was recommended by the United Nations Children Education Fund (UNICEF) and adopted by the Nigerian government in 2005 to provide a veritable platform for children to exercise their democratic rights.

The Deputy Governor noted that Lagos State established the Parliament in 2005, adding that since inception members have performed creditably well as representatives of other children, while also serving as role models to them.

She added that the objective of instilling leadership skills in the children is achieving the desired results through the parliament, adding that with the quality of deliberations and suggestions put forward by the children, they have developed good capacity and responsible citizenship, which she hopes will help shape a better future for the state and country.
