Dolphins FC now aim to go to Warri on Sunday to share the spoils with Warri Wolves after their 2-0 win over Nembe City on Wednesday in Port Harcourt.

Dolphins’ manager, Stanley Eguma said on Wednesday that they expect a massive game in Warri but they will work hard to ensure they come out with a good result.

“Yes, we also hope we could get that elusive road win there but we must be ready for the task ahead,” Eguma said.

On Wednesday at the Liberation Stadium in Port Harcourt, Dolphins beat Nembe City by 2-0, goals from Fred Okwarah in the 15th minute and Isiaka Olawale in the 56th.

Playing without Jeleel Ajagun, Chidi Osuchukwu and Chizoba Amaefule who returned to the national U20 team camp as well as Ifeanyi Egwim (typhoid) and Chimaobi Chukwu (groin), the manager, Stanley Eguma started Derek Amadi for the first time this season and Isiaka Olawale also returned to the starting lineup for the first since April 14 in Enugu.

However, it was Nembe City that almost drew first blood in the 3rd minute when Jonathan Zikiye’s free kick rattled Dolphins keeper, Austin Brown who eventually brought the ball under control after two attempts.

However, Festus Austin’s long ball to the left in the 15th minute found overlapping full back, Chidiebere Okollie who crossed on to the path of Okwarah and his header was too strong for Opubo Japheth in goal for Nembe City.

With 7 minutes left before half time, Nembe City had a chance to draw level when Arinze Obinna beat the Dolphins off side play but got confused letting the ball bounce twice in front of him before he handballed to give the home side some reprieve.

Fred Okwarah also could have made it two just before half time when he turned out his marker and shot from distance but the goalkeeper scrambled for a corner which was wasted anyway.

In the 2nd half, Nembe City’s coach John Aranka replaced Arinze Obinna with Uge Johnson but it was Isiaka Olawale who made it two in the 56th minute.

The goalkeeper had parried a cross from the right side but it landed at the feet of Olawale who controlled well and lobbed the ball beyond the reach of the hapless Japheth.

Dolphins full back, Chidiebere Okolie got two yellow cards in two minutes for dissent but it was the home side that eventually held on until the end.

Nembe City’s General Manager, Meremu Okara said it was a fair game but Dolphins deserved to win.

“My boys did well. We came here to defend and only brought in attackers after we conceded two goals but Dolphins deserved to win,” Okara said.

Dolphins’ manager, Stanley Eguma on his part said he was happy with the win and clean sheet.

“We laboured hard to win. It wasn’t an easy match and I thank the players for their performance,” Eguma said.

“About Okolie, the player that was sent off, I’m aware the referee said the player addressed him in an ungentlemanly manner.”
