The Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Osun state have disagreed over the arrest of a PDP member, Mrs. Toyin Adesina in Ikirun, headquarters of Ifelodun Local Government Area of the state. Mrs Adesina was alleged to have lured people into exchanging their voters\u2019 cards to secure appointment with the Federal Government Poverty Alleviation Programme (SURE-P). While the ACN described Adesina\u2019s alleged act as part of the desperate plans of the PDP to rig the 2014 Governorship election in the state, the PDP said the state government orchestrated her arrest to frustrate members of the party in the state. The ACN Director of Publicity, Research and Strategy, Mr Kunle Oyatomi said that the PDP had begun the process of rigging the election with the alleged act of one of its members. He urged the Police to investigate the matter and ensure that the state was cleared of illegal acts. But the PDP in a statement by its Publicity Secretary, Prince Bola Ajao, insisted that the arrest and subsequent prosecution of the PDP member was the height of frustration against opposition members especially the party. He explained that the party organized an empowerment seminar for its members in Ifelodun Local Government Area, and parts of the requirements to participate in the seminar, was possession of voters\u2019 cards. He stated that the party directed Mrs Adesina to collate the voters\u2019 cards of the members who will participate in the seminar, stressing that the ACN only wanted to use her as a scrape goat following the recent defection of some members of the ACN to the PDP in the area. It would be recalled that the police arrested 42- year-old Mrs Adesina, at the weekend, at Ward 2, Ikirun. She had since been charged to court for alleged unlawful possession of voters\u2019 cards and conduct likely to cause public peace.<\/p>\n
