The Minister of Youth Development, Mr Inuwa Abdulkadir, has called on members of the\u00a0new board of the NYSC\u00a0 to ensure\u00a0the implementation of\u00a0reforms\u00a0to\u00a0improve service delivery in the organisation.<\/p>\n

Abdulkadir made the call at the inauguration of the\u00a0board of the NYSC\u00a0on Wednesday in Abuja.<\/p>\n

According to him, a high-powered committee has been put in place\u00a0to look into the\u00a0structure and operations of the NYSC with a view to recommending appropriate reforms.<\/p>\n

“The committee has since completed its assignment and submitted its report.<\/p>\n

“You have a responsibility to see to the smooth implementation of the reforms, which are designed to reposition the scheme for improved service delivery in fulfilment of its founding fathers’ dream.\u201d<\/p>\n

Abdulkadir urged the board members to do their best during their tenure so that posterity would\u00a0recognise their contributions to the attainment of the vision of the NYSCs\u2019 founding fathers.<\/p>\n

The minister\u00a0said that members should\u00a0generate\u00a0innovative ideas that would\u00a0enrich\u00a0policy formulation and reform processes.<\/p>\n

The minister said that there was\u00a0need to provide effective access for corps members to acquire vocational skills and entrepreneurship training through collaboration with appropriate organisations, including the private sector.<\/p>\n

Abdulkadir\u00a0also called for the resuscitation of NYSC farms and ventures with\u00a0active involvement of relevant agencies.<\/p>\n

He listed the agencies as\u00a0Bank of Agriculture, Bank of Industry and the Small and Medium-Scale Enterprises Development Agency of Nigeria.<\/p>\n

“The effort will immensely increase opportunities for corps members and also contribute significantly in reducing the high rate of unemployment in the country.\u2019\u2019<\/p>\n

He noted that the scheme was\u00a0facing the problem of inadequate infrastructure at\u00a0the orientation camps.<\/p>\n

The minister lauded\u00a0the Federal Government\u2019s efforts in engaging other tiers of government to discharge their statutory responsibilities as assigned in the NYSC Act.<\/p>\n

Responding on behalf of other members, the Chairman of the board, Mr Gordon Bozimo, pleaded for the\u00a0cooperation of workers of the NYSC\u00a0and the ministry.<\/p>\n

“I appeal for cooperation, no matter the zeal and determination, without cooperation little will be achieved,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
