The Kwara United striker was the hero of the day while Babatunde Badmus got a brace and team captain, Isiaka Olawale, netted once.

He admitted that the Egyptians were not easy opponents as the result suggested. The Nigerians and their Egyptian counterparts battled through almost all of the first period goalless until Badmus scored with about a minute left to play.

And Azeez told supersport.com: “It wasn’t easy at all. They gave us a very good fight.”

But in the second period the Nigerians overpowered the North Africans and raced into a four-goal lead and subsequently won 8-4 in the final period to reach the last four of the tournament. Azeez believes the Super Sand Eagles were too strong for the Egyptians in the last two periods of the tie.

“They couldn’t match our strength and force in the second and third periods,” said Azeez to supersport.com.

The striker has now set his sight on the final group clash of his team against West African rivals, Ivory Coast today.
