Tragedy struck at the weekend as six persons were killed and others wounded in a communal clash involving youths at Ajah, Olumegbon and Ilaje boys along the Lekki-Epe-expressway, Lagos.

Reports say the fight broke out on Saturday at a football pitch, following a lingering dispute between Olumegbon and Ajah boys for supremacy.

Eye witnesses said Ilaje boys allegedly got involved when fleeing Ajah boys attempted to escape through their terrain. The latter refused and another round of fight reportedly started.

Two corpses of the Olumegbon boys were reportedly taken to their traditional head’s palace where the youths mourned the loss, with each faction spoiling for reprisal attack.

Broken bottles, axes, knives and locally made guns were used during the fight.

Mobile policemen and others had to be drafted from the Area J Command, Ajah, to quieten the situation.

Confirming the incident, the Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, Ngozi Braide, said some persons had been arrested in connection with the crisis and that security had been also beefed up in the area as both policemen and military personnel are currently keeping surveillance.
