The Former Governor of Abia State, Orji Uzor Kalu has said Nigeria\u2019s growing democracy can only be sustained if elections are devoid of rigging, manipulations and ballot box snatching.<\/p>\n

Orji Kalu, Wednesday took the the social media blogging site twitter @<\/s>OUKtweets, in a message to millions of Nigerians as the nation celebrates 14 years of uninterrupted democratic rule.<\/p>\n

He said, when the people genuinely elect their leaders, it brings credibility to the democratic process and promotes accountability to the people adding that a situation where people force themselves into government positions through the back door, they owe no obligation to the people.<\/p>\n

According to Kalu “They are more concerned about sharing tax payers money among their so-called political perpetrators and amassing wealth for themselves.”<\/p>\n

In the 14 years of democracy rule, the former Abia Governor said Advanced countries have shown the benefits of free and fair elections, which is evident in the welfare of their citizens.<\/p>\n

He however commended President Jonathan on his aggressive strategy of curbing the Boko Haram insurgency with both the amnesty and State of Emergency.<\/p>\n

He called on the present administration to strengthen INEC to deliver on credible elections as he says the process starts from the primaries of political parties where candidates for the general election are elected.<\/p>\n

A message to the Nigerian people “For Nigerians, let us remain calm and hopeful that the country will overcome its present challenges. The people\u2019s mandate should be protected and guaranteed at all times.”<\/p>\n

“I pray that God will continue to give the people at the helm of affairs the wisdom to steer the affairs of our great country; God bless you all, and God bless our great country, Nigeria, he concluded.<\/p>\n
