Members of the Kwara State branch of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) have urged the government to lift the ban it recently placed on its branches in Offa and Erin-Ile.

The government, last week, announced the proscription of the union in the two communities, alleging their complicity in the January communal clashes that engulfed both towns in Offa and Oyun local government areas.

In a communiqué at the end of its State Executive Council (SEC) meeting, the union “warns all union members in Offa and Erin-Ile to avoid and dissociate themselves from any activity that can tarnish the image of the union and always respect the law of the land”.

The communiqué, by the Chairman and Secretary, Alhaji Issa Aliyu Ore and Comrade Abubakar Ari Kadai, reads: “The meeting in session commends Governor AbdulFatah Ahmed for his ebullient administrative principles and procedure; the meeting in session expressed its profound gratitude to the governor for giving the state administrative council members of the union an audience in his office on April 16…”
