From ADETUTU FOLASADE-KOYI, Abuja

Senator Margery Chuba-Okadigbo has described the proposal by Chief Anthony Anenih, Chairman, Board of Trustees (BOT) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), seeking automatic tickets for performing members of the party as a welcome development.

Senator Okadigbo, however, said the proposal is relative.

Speaking against the backdrop of her victory at the Supreme Court, which affirmed on Friday that she was the candidate of PDP for Anambra North senatorial district, she said lawmakers would need more time to settle down in order to deliver on their electoral promises.

“Obviously, there is a caveat in that proposal – it is for those performing, that’s relative. Legislators in particular don’t have a time limit because you want to make sure the little they’ve learnt they improve upon.

“In the Senate, as a new member, you need more time to settle down and observe before you learn the ropes. It’s not a matter of how smart or how quick or knowledgeable you are.”

Senator Okadigbo further explained that Anenih’s proposal simply considered the realities on ground, because the lack of continuity in the process of governance has robbed Nigeria of so many benefits, especially in the area of sustainable development.

On her victory over Senator Alphonsus Igbeke, Senator Okadigbo said her victory was “a demonstration of sound judgment anchored on the letter and spirit of justice.”
