{"id":516,"date":"2013-03-13T06:16:45","date_gmt":"2013-03-13T06:16:45","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/disnaija.com\/?p=516"},"modified":"2020-04-15T00:38:10","modified_gmt":"2020-04-15T00:38:10","slug":"president-goodluck-jonathan-grants-a-state-pardon-to-former-bayelsa-state-governor-diepreiye-alamieyeseigha-and-other-ex-convicts","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/disnaija.com\/president-goodluck-jonathan-grants-a-state-pardon-to-former-bayelsa-state-governor-diepreiye-alamieyeseigha-and-other-ex-convicts\/","title":{"rendered":"President Goodluck Jonathan Grants A State Pardon To Former Bayelsa State Governor"},"content":{"rendered":"<h1><span style=\"font-size: 22px;\">President Goodluck Jonathan Grants State Pardon To Diepreiye Alamieyeseigha And Other Ex-Convicts.<\/span><\/h1>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/disnaija.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/03\/Diepreiye-Alamieyeseigha-receives-state-pardon.jpg\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The <strong>National Council of State<\/strong> headed by President <strong>Goodluck Jonathan,<\/strong> has granted a state pardon to the former Governor of Bayelsa State, <strong>Diepreiye Alamieyeseigha\u00a0<\/strong>and other ex convicts.<\/p>\n<p>Others granted state pardon include former Bank of the North head, Shettima Bulama, former Chief of General Staff during the Abacha regime: General Oladipo Diya (rtd.); former Chief of Staff Supreme Military Council and brother of late President Musa Yar&#8217;adua: Major General Shehu Musa Yar&#8217;adua (Post Humous);\u00a0ex-Major\u00a0<strong>Bello Magaji<\/strong>\u00a0NA\/6604,\u00a0<strong>Mohammed Lima Biu<\/strong>; Major General\u00a0<strong>Abdulkareem Adisa<\/strong>\u00a0(Post Humous) and former Major\u00a0<strong>Segun Fadipe.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Diepreiye Alamieyeseigha,\u00a0<\/strong>as Governor of Bayelsa State, embezzled state funds. He was convicted, after he pleaded guilty to a six-count corruption charges before a Nigerian court and was sentenced to two years in prison for each count.<\/p>\n<p>While in the United Kingdom,\u00a0<strong>Diepreiye Alamieyeseigha<\/strong> was charged with money laundering, after the London Metropolitan Police found in his London home, cash amounting to about two hundred and fifty three million Naira (\u00a0<del>N<\/del>253,000,000). \u00a0In 2005, he jumped bail and absconded by disguising himself as a woman. Notwithstanding the state pardon, Alamieyeseigha still remains a wanted man in the United Kingdom.<\/p>\n<p>With the presidential pardon,\u00a0<strong>Diepreiye Alamieyeseigha\u00a0<\/strong>and the other ex convicts will no longer be addressed as &#8220;ex-convicts&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>Present in the meeting were three former heads of state, and some state governors.<\/p>\n<p>The council of states is composed of the President, Vice President, all state governors, former presidents, the Chief Justice of the Federation, the Senate President, Speakers among others.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>President Goodluck Jonathan Grants State Pardon To Diepreiye Alamieyeseigha And Other Ex-Convicts.
