The cash-strapped Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) have insisted they will not back down in their decision to slash the win-bonus of the country’s team.<\/p>\n

The Super Eagles’ arrived late in Brazil for the Confederations Cup after they staged a protest in Namibia against a cut in their win bonus.<\/p>\n

Under the new terms the African champions will now receive $ 5,000 for a win as against double what they were previously paid.<\/p>\n

NFF general secretary Musa Amadu said there was no going back on a decision to slash the bonuses because of the association’s poor finances.<\/p>\n

“Even at $ 5,000, the Super Eagles remain among the best-paid national teams in Africa.<\/p>\n

“It is a decision of the NFF executive committee, taken after thorough deliberation, and we cannot go back on it no matter the amount of blackmail,” said Amadu.<\/p>\n

“The NFF have gone to great lengths to explain the situation that we have found ourselves and we expect those who should have an understanding of this matter to give dispassionate opinion.”<\/p>\n

At the Confed Cup, Nigeria won their Group B opener against Tahiti 6-1 before a 2-1 loss to Uruguay.<\/p>\n
