Twenty-eight students of the Kwara State University, Malete in Moro local government area of the central Nigerian state of Kwara have been expelled for various offences which contravened the rules and regulations of the institution.<\/p>\n

The offences, according to the institution’s Deputy Registrar, Shuaib Mohammed, ranged from examination malpractices, theft, engagement in physical combat with fellow students, possession of dangerous weapons to membership of unregistered association(s), among others.<\/p>\n

Mohammed, who spoke with select journalists in his office at Malete, said: Some of them were expelled for exam malpractices, misconduct, while some belonged to an unregistered association.”<\/p>\n

He cited a case of a male student who used as knife to fight and injure his fellow student. Besides, he mentioned another case involving three students who were caught around 1am holding meeting in the bush.<\/p>\n

Mohammed, who reiterated the University zero tolerance to any act of indiscipline or misbehaviour capable of tarnishing the image of the institution, disclosed that there are pending cases against some students, maintaining that if the investigation committee finds them guilty of alleged offences, they would also be expelled.<\/p>\n

On the post- Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination of the institution for the 2013\/2014 admission exercise, the Deputy Registrar said 5,950 candidates are currently taking the exam, adding that registration for the computer-based test screening was on-going.<\/p>\n
