Nigerian physicians in diaspora have lamented the high rates of maternal deaths in Nigeria as the country is said to account for 10 percent of global maternal deaths.<\/em><\/strong> Recently, the Society of Gynaecology and Obstetrics of Nigeria was quoted as saying that an average of 45 women died from pregnancy complications every day between January and March this year with obstetric fistula and infections major causes of death. All very preventable. Experts recommend more medical attention in rural areas with 500 per 100,000 women estimated to be dying from childbirth.<\/p>\n
