Unknown gunmen on Saturday attacked the residence of the Deputy National Chairman (South) of the All Nigeria Peoples Party (ANPP), Mr Solomon Edebiri in Benin, Edo state.<\/p>\n

The armed bandits, numbering five, allegedly attacked the night guard and two other persons with a machete, and left them in a\u00a0 pool of blood.<\/p>\n

Sources say they stormed the compound at about 2:15am during a downpour, scaled the fence and tied the night guard to a tree\u00a0 inside the compound after attacking him. Then they went straight to the uncompleted building inside the compound where staff and relations of the ANPP leader were sleeping.<\/p>\n

They used machete and bottles to inflict serious injuries on two persons in the room and started ransacking the entire building for cash, taking to their heels when a mobile policeman within the premises shot at them.<\/p>\n

When reached for comments, Edebiri, who was not at home when the incident occurred, said, \u201cI cannot place their reasons for coming because I don\u2019t keep cash at home. The state of criminality has increased seriously in Benin and it is scary. I want to appeal to the police to do something seriously and urgently too.<\/p>\n

“If we are not lucky those three people would have been killed. And we are still praying because they had deep cuts and are still critical in hospital. I will allow the police to do their investigation so as to ascertain their true motive\u201d.<\/p>\n
