The President of the Nigerian Medical Association (NMA) Osahon Enabulele has been elected the Vice President of the Commonwealth Medical Association,CMA.<\/p>\n

The election took place during the 23rd triennial conference and council meeting of the CMA which was held in Trinidad and Tobago.<\/p>\n

Mr. Enabulele, alongside other elected officers, will pilot the medical association\u2019s affairs for the next three years.<\/p>\n

The other elected officers are Solaiman Juman, a Consultant ENT surgeon and former President of the Trinidad and Tobago Medical Association as the new CMA President; Oheneba Owusu-Danso, of the Ghana Medical Association and a Consultant plastic, aesthetic and hand surgeon as Secretary; Phophi Ramathuba, a clinical pharmacologist and delegate of the South Africa Medical Association, as Treasurer; while Gordon Caruana-Dingli, a general and breast surgeon from the Medical Association of Malta automatically became the Immediate Past President and member of the executive.<\/p>\n

Enabulele during an interview stated that he already has his blueprint for the association and health sector intact and is set to bring about positive changes.<\/p>\n

\u201cAs Vice President, I will superintend over the West African Region and my first objective is to galvanize the countries within the West African Region and then set an agenda focused on strengthening the National Medical Associations, Healthcare and the wellbeing of the people within the West African Region\u201d he stated.<\/p>\n

The Commonwealth Medical Association (CMA) was founded in 1962 and is made up of National Medical Associations from at least 42 Commonwealth countries from the various continents of the Commonwealth, including United Kingdom, South Africa, Nigeria, Singapore, Trinidad and Tobago, and India.<\/p>\n

The CMA was established to assist and strengthen the capacities of National Medical Associations of countries within the Commonwealth to improve the health and wellbeing of their communities and countries through activities such as: regional and international workshops on health issues; medical and health research; advocacy on health issues; capacity-building for member national medical associations; and collaborations with other international bodies, civil society and governance institutions, with similar objectives.<\/p>\n
