Nigerian Senate on Tuesday began a clause-by-clause consideration of the reviewed 1999 constitution.

The first casualty in the recommendation of the constitution review committee was the direct funding for Local Governments.

The committee had recommended a shift for the present method of funding the local councils through a State-Local Government joint account.

The Senate also rejected the six year tenure for President and Governors as well as the splitting of the position of Attorney General from that of Minister of Justice.

It however endorsed eighteen years as the eligible age for any woman to be married.

Former Zamfara State Governor, Sani Yerima vehemently protested the age limit because, according to him it is Anti-Islamic.
