The University of Nigeria Nsukka (UNN) chapter of ASUU on Friday boycotted the UNN 2013 post Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) screening that started on Thursday.<\/p>\n

Dr Ifeanyichukwu Abada, the UNN Chairman of ASUU, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Nsukka on Friday that lecturers boycotted the screening in compliance with the ongoing nationwide strike by the union.<\/p>\n

“Lecturers of UNN are not participating in the university\u2019s 2013 post UTME screening because of the ongoing nationwide strike.<\/p>\n

“The strike is total. Any lecturer that participates in the examination will be punished for anti-union activity.<\/p>\n

“Also teaching and supervising examinations as well as attending senate, board, faculty or departmental meetings are not allowed as the strike lasts.<\/p>\n

“Our monitoring committee is watching and will report erring lecturers to ASUU for necessary action,\u2019\u2019 he said.<\/p>\n

When contacted, the University\u2019s PRO, Mr Gabriel Ndu, expressed the hope that the screening which started on clean note would end successfully.<\/p>\n

“The screening is moving as expected and, believing God, it would end very well.<\/p>\n

“In spite of the rain on Thursday, the afternoon session of the examination ended smoothly,\u2019\u2019 he said.<\/p>\n

Ndu said he would not be able to give reasons why the union was not participating in the screening as he was not a member of ASUU.<\/p>\n

“I am not a member of ASUU, so I will not speak on their behalf,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

Some candidates in their separate comments said the screening was well organised but they complained of inadequate time.<\/p>\n

“The exam is okay and well supervised but we were not given adequate time during the exam,\u201d Victor Ezeani, who sat for Bio-Chemistry, said.<\/p>\n

NAN reports that Nsukka town had been witnessing increase in human and vehicular traffic as well as beehive of activities since Wednesday, July 17.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, intra and inter-transport fares remained stable as there had been no report of any increase.<\/p>\n
