Oke-Osanyintolu said the building collapsed around 10.00 am after a heavy downpour, saying that rescue operation was still on to ascertain if some people were still under the debris.

He added that the building might have collapsed because the developer made use of substandard materials but noted that investigation was still ongoing.

However, The National Emergency Management Agency, NEMA, said four persons, including a 13-year old bread hawker died in the collapsed building.

NEMA’s spokesperson, Ibrahim Farinloye told P.M. NEWS that two of those injured had been taken to the Accident and Emergency Unit on Lagos-Ibadan Expressway while another victim who needed surgical operation was taken to the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital, LASUTH.

According to him, the house had been marked two times for the developer to stop construction, but he continued working on the building, adding that no worker was working on the building at the time it collapsed.

In another development, a 12 storey building was gutted by fire at around 8:00 a.m at Ademola Adetokunbo Way, Victoria Island.

Farinloye disclosed that only the ground and first floors of the building were affected before the fire was put out
