The Super Eagles may be the reigning African champions, but Chief Coach of the Bafana Bafana of South Africa, Gordon Igesund said this would not count when both teams clash at the Mandela Challenge billed for 14 August.

The former Orlando Pirates of South Africa coach said he does not believe that big names would determine the outcome of games as he is ready to prepare his players for a tough challenge against the Eagles next month.

He warned the Nigerian team not to underrate his team, insisting that he will leave nothing to chance to ensure that he defeats the reigning African champions on home soil.

According to him, “Nigeria have got good players scattered all over the world. This does not mean that they would have an easy ride over us. We will go into the game with the aim of defeating them.”

Meanwhile, Keshi says striker Shola Ameobi will be fit for next clash after being certified fit.

The forward was injured in a pre-season friendly with his club, but after a conversation with the Newcastle striker, Keshi says all is well.

“I have spoken to Shola and he is fit and healthy and will be available for the Mandela Challenge. He told me so himself,” Keshi said.

Ameobi is one of 20 players named by the Nigeria coach for the friendly in Durban on 14 August. Ameobi made his Nigeria debut under Keshi in a friendly against Venezuela, coming in on 60 minutes and helping to set-up Ogenyi Onazi for a 3-1 lead.
