Dixon Lee, the Briton who was kidnapped on 18 July in Lagos, southwest Nigeria, and rescued by the police five days later, was not abducted at the Lagos airport, aviation authorities said on Tuesday, explaining that the earlier misinformation could trigger panic among airport users in Nigeria.

Lee was abducted on Murtala Muhammed Airport Road in Mafoluku, a Lagos suburb, bordering the airport and not at the Murtala Muhammed Airport in Ikeja, aviation authorities said.

“This clarification is necessary to forestall the spread of this misinformation which is capable of instilling fear in the mind of passengers and other airport users,” said Yakubu Dati, spokesperson of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria, FAAN.

“We wish to assure all passengers and other aviation stakeholders that all Nigerian airports are safe, secure and customer-friendly, in line with the policy objective of the Transformation Agenda of President Goodluck Jonathan in the aviation industry,” Dati said.
