The chairman of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), Dr. Boniface Aniebonam, has said the party will produce the next governor of Anambra State.

He told The Nation that the party was not in rivalry with any political party, adding that it is platform to provide the leadership that would bring development.

He said: “We have always been ready to go to elections and of course, you must know that I am from Anambra State, where election is due very soon. Every structure has been put in place to be part of it. We have just concluded our state congresses and we are making efforts to ensure that we produce the next government.

“For now NNPP has a candidate that we will field for the election but then, we will ensure that if a better candidate that can win election in the state by 2014 comes up we will through our weight behind him.”

Aniebonam however, advised those who see politics as a do or die affairs to have a rethink. He said it was wrong to play the politics of bitterness because politicians who really want to serve do not visit unnecessary pains on the people.

Aniebonam said: “We don’t want to be part of politics with bitterness. I have listened to lots of people who have the intension of standing for election in Anambra but instead commending government for its effort so far, they try to bring them down as if they have done nothing.”

He added that there is always room for improvement with a new government continued from where the former stopped. “I think anybody coming into Anambra State after we serve would only be talking of building from where we stop.”

Assessing the Federal Government on its effort to fix the power sector, he said: “There is a concerted effort as far as energy is concerned to get the sector back on course, the little set back we might be having now has been explained away by the government that there are technical issues and in a short distance things will get better.

“I can say that from my own vantage position electricity has improved tremendously. I live around Surelere, Lagos and I can say that we have light for most times.

He enjoined to calling for the removal of every government that was facing administrative problem to review their stand.

Aniebonam added: “Some of us cannot even maintain their homes but it is easy for them to open their mouth and say what they like so what is sinking and what is not sinking? It is very irresponsible for someone to say that Nigeria is sinking, sinking to where? Let us take from the issue of the security of the state, is it only in Nigeria that we have security challenges? Let us not talk as if we are coming from the moon. Insecurity is a global challenge as far as the whole world is concerned. What is important is the capacity of Nigeria to look at their own problem within their own peculiarity and see how they can solve the matter.

He further explained that NNPP will not merge with any party. “Our party is a national political party and was not created to merge with any party. But that does not mean that we cannot enter into any agreement political association but for now we are not thinking of that and not in a hurry to do that.”
