Barely few hour after the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, approved the registration of the All Progressives Congress, APC, the National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Alhaji Bamanga Tukur has denied the report that he is opposed to the presidential intervention in the peace move between the party and some Northern governors.<\/p>\n

The Media Assistant to the PDP National Chairman, Oliver Okpala had on Monday in a statement berated Governors Sule Lamido (Jigawa), Aliyu Wamakko (Sokoto), Rabiu Kwankwaso (Kano) and Babangida Aliyu (Niger) for criss-crossing the country to visit former President Olusegun Obasanjo and two former military heads of state, Generals Ibrahim Babangida and Abdulsalami Abubakar and consequently overheating the polity.<\/p>\n

Tukur in the statement criticised the governors, stressing that by their action and utterances, they have shown contempt to party\u2019s reconciliation committee by failing to take their grievances to the panel.<\/p>\n

But in a statement issued yesterday by the Acting National Secretary of the PDP, Dr. Charles Akitoye, the party said: \u201cThe National Secretary of the PDP hereby reaffirm that the press release do not represent the thoughts and, even actions of the chairman on the visit of the five governors to some political leaders, especially in view of his ever persistent role to achieve lasting peace and progress for the party which himself and others nursed from infancy.\u201d<\/p>\n

Another aide of the National Chairman, Ahmed Shuaib-Gara Gombe, in another statement, also said that Tukur \u201cis happy that the governors are indeed helping his reconciliation efforts particularly their meeting with the President Goodluck Jonathan, which Governor Rotimi Amaechi\u2019s faceoff with the President was the main issue. And substantial progress was made by the governors and the president in fencemending.\u201d<\/p>\n

He said that there is no way the PDP National Chairman could condemn the Northern governors talk less of accusing them of overheating the polity as contained in the said statement.<\/p>\n
