The Ekiti State Government has spent over N14.7 billion on the provision of infrastructure and other projects in the last two and half years.

The Special Adviser to the Governor on Infrastructure, Mr. Kayode Jegede, said the development had culminated in the transformation of the state in the area of infrastructure.

The infrastructure, according to him, included water, electrification and Information Communication and Technology (ICT) facilities.

Jegede, who gave a breakdown of the expenditure yesterday at a programme organised by the Ministry of Information in Ado-Ekiti, the state capital, said N5 billion was spent on water, N2 billion on electrification, N7 billion on legacy projects and N700 million on ICT facilities.

The governor’s aide said that the state government would soon install security cameras in strategic places in the state capital as part of efforts to checkmate the activities of criminals.

Stressing that water supply had improved since the inception of Governor Kayode Fayemi’s administration, Jegede said the government had invested billions of naira to expand the major dams in the state, particularly Ureje Dam in Ado-Ekiti for more water provision.

He said efforts aimed at boosting water supply would be complemented by the establishment of water kiosk that would be supervised by women to hawk water for residents.

The special adviser, who said infrastructure provision was resources demanding, urged residents to pay their taxes so as to enhance the government’s capacity to provide more basic facilities that would improve their well-being.

He said fibre-optic cables would soon be installed across the state to make Internet services available to all residents for e-learning and video-conferencing.

Earlier, Commissioner for Information, Mr. Tayo Ekundayo, assured that the government would continue to improve on the infrastructure base in the state.
