Eko Electricity Distribution Company has assured its customers of a 20-hour electricity supply daily by December.<\/p>\n

Its Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Oladele Amoda, gave the assurance in Lagos yesterday during the conferment of the \u201cAfrica Distinguished Gold Service Award\u201d on him by the Centre for Democratic Governance in Africa, based in Abuja.<\/p>\n

Amoda said all the electricity distribution companies (Discos) had been mandated by the Federal Government to ensure that the cities had minimum of 20 hours of electricity supply, daily.<\/p>\n

According to him, the Eko Distribution Company also wants to comply with the Federal Government\u2019s directive and ensure that customers within the company\u2019s network enjoy uninterrupted power supply by December.<\/p>\n

He said: \u201cWe urge customers to support the electricity distribution companies to achieve the projection. \u201cThe present administration under President Goodluck Jonathan has improved the power sector tremendously, to benefit the masses.\u2019\u2019<\/p>\n

Amoda said the sector had been comatose for over 20 years during the military regime, adding that its improvement started under the civilian administration. He said all ongoing projects within the zone were meant to improve service delivery when finally completed.<\/p>\n

According to him, the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, NNPC, with the support of the Federal Government, has an agreement on a satisfactory pricing regime with those who will make the gas available.<\/p>\n

Amoda said regular power supply would help in combating some challenges facing manufacturing companies in the country. The CEO, therefore, urged the workers to put in their best, to upgrade service delivery in the zone. He, however, said that no worker would be sacked in the course of privatisation of the power sector.<\/p>\n

Amoda thanked the management of the centre for giving him the award. According to him, the award is dedicated to all workers of Eko Electricity Distribution Company for their support and hard work. He said: \u201cIf not for them, I will not be standing this morning to receive this award.<\/p>\n

\u201cI promise to offer myself for more excellent and quality service delivery to my fatherland and to the growth of the power sector.\u2019\u2019<\/p>\n

The Director-General, Centre for Democratic Governance in Africa, Dr. Dafe Akpocha, said the award was given to Amoda considering his selfless service, quality service delivery and effective innovation.<\/p>\n

Akpocha said the award was usually given to individuals and companies that had distinguished themselves through effective service delivery.<\/p>\n

The DG appealed to Nigerians to invest in the country, rather than in other countries which would not impact on the lives of the people. He said: \u201cNigeria is a great country and we must collectively support the socio-economic growth and progress of the country.\u2019\u2019<\/p>\n
