President Goodluck Jonathan on Thursday attended the 53rd independence anniversary celebrations of Benin Republic, as a guest of honour, in Cotonou.<\/p>\n

Jonathan, arrived in Cotonou early Thursday and attended the military and civilian parades held at the Etoile Rouge Square, along with his host President Boni Yayi, before returning home.<\/p>\n

Apart from the parades, the celebrations also featured calisthenics by students, with themes such as agriculture, youth, environment, health and love for the country highlighted in the displays.<\/p>\n

This year\u2019s celebrations were low-keyed in view of the economic hardships being faced by many citizens.<\/p>\n
