Governor Kayode Fayemi’s administration has presented two new bills to the Ekiti State House of Assembly for passage.

The two bills, according to the Commissioner for Information, Mr. Tayo Ekundayo, are N2.2 billion Supplementary Bill and a bill for the establishment of a Technical College of Commercial Agriculture.

Ekundayo said the supplementary bill, which would jerk up the 2013 budget to N99.8 billion, was to enable the government execute more development projects this year.

He said the supplementary budgetary provision would be financed through money accruing into the state through foreign bodies, individuals and corporate organisations who were impressed by the administration’s achievements.

The commissioner said the bill for the establishment of College of Commercial Agriculture at Isan, in Oye Local Government, was targeted at producing self-sustaining commercial farmers.

He said: “The school is planned to ensure that it is self-sustaining; meaning that by the time the students acquire the National Diploma, ND, or the Higher National Diploma, HND, they would have been well-equipped to set up their own farms.

“We are also working in partnership with some foreign-based institutions in the United States to develop practical agriculture.”

The commissioner said the state government had approved the appointment of the Onitaji of Itaji-Ekiti, Oba Idowu Adamo Babalola, as the chairman of the state Council of Obas, following the expiration of the two-year tenure of the former occupant of the position, the Owa Ooye of Okemesi-Ekiti, Oba Adedeji Gbadebo.

The government has also approved the appointment of the Chairman, Medical Advisory Committee of the Ekiti State University Teaching Hospital, EKSUTH, Dr. Kolawole Ogundipe, as the acting Chief Medical Director of the hospital.

A statement by the Head, Corporate Affairs of the hospital, Mr. Tony Awolusi, said the development followed the governor’s directive that the CMD, Dr. Patrick Adegun, should cease to function in that capacity.
