The All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA) has suspended Governor Rochas Okorocha of Imo State for alleged anti-party activities.

Rising from an emergency National Executive Council meeting Saturday in Abuja, the party said its NEC unanimously decided to disband the Imo State Chapter of the party, adding that a 21-man Committee will be appointed to oversee the party until a congress is held.

Though details about the suspension was scanty at the time of this report, Huhuonline.com learnt that the action resulted from his alleged political association with the All Peoples Congress (APC).

While a faction of the crisis-ridden APGA had warned the Governor against frolicking with APGA, the other faction loyal to the Governor had urged him on and followed him to the newly registered APC.

Few days ago, the APGA had reiterated their stand against joining APC and even warned Okorocha to reconsider his support for the merger and romance with the APC.

In a statement signed by Francis Edeh, the Senior Media Assistant to a factional Chairman of APGA, the party accused the Chief Victor Umeh faction of trying to mortgage the soul of APGA.

According to the statement, “the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) is on notice of Governor Rochas Okorocha’s rally in Owerri as part of activities to mark his Government’s two years in office during which he formally declared for the All Progressives Congress (APC).

“Since Governor Okorocha was elected on the platform of All Progressives Grand Alliance in April 2011, the party wishes to advise him to have a re-think on his decision to join APC, a political association that has not been registered as a political party by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and the acronym is being contested by another political association.

“APGA gives this timely advice to Governor Okorocha to save him from becoming a political orphan wandering in political wilderness in Nigeria’s political horizon.

“Since June 2002 APGA was registered by INEC, the party has been growing from strength to strength and is currently being repositioned, restructured and reengineered to be the third leg in Nigeria’s political tripod.

“We are confident that the party’s electoral fortune will increase in the 2015 general election just as APGA is the party to beat in the forthcoming Anambra Governorship election.

“APGA frowns at the attitude of the party’s erstwhile Chairman Chief Victor Umeh who has been working surreptitiously with C-21 which he serves as director of publicity to mortgage the soul of APGA for a mess of pottage in the political proposal called APC. We believe this is the reason Chief Umeh has been silent on Owelle Okorocha’s plan to join APC.”
