Inspector-General of Police, Mr. Mohammed Abubakar, on Monday visited and left Port Harcourt, the Rivers State capital, without paying a courtesy visit to the embattled state Governor, Rotimi Amaechi.

The police chief who was in the state to inaugurate 100 Prado Sports Utility Vans donated to the nine Niger Delta state Police commands by the Niger Delta Development Commission, also did not address officers and men of the commands, gathered to welcome him.

The state Deputy Commissioner of Police, Operations, Mr. Joshak Habila, who addressed officers and journalists present, thanked them for coming out.

Sources say the IGP also did not pay a courtesy visit to the governor when he visited the city few months ago.

Meanwhile, the Chief Press Secretary to the governor, Mr. David Iyofor, has said there was nothing to comment on over the refusal of the IGP to visit the governor, as it was entirely up to Abubakar to visit the governor or not.

The state Police Public Relations Officer, Mrs. Angela Agabe, has however stressed that the IGP only went to inaugurate some vehicles at the Police Primary School in Port Harcourt.

She added that she could not say whether the police boss was in a hurry or not, as a reason for his not addressing men of the command or visiting the state’s number one citizen.
