Nasarawa state is expected to host a maiden meeting of the newly registered All Progressive Congress (APC) on August 12.
Governor Umaru Tanko Al-makura disclosed this yesterday while delivering a speech at the maiden meeting of the APC in the state, involving all the members of the defunct political parties that were part of the merger namely; the Congress for Progressive Change (CPC), the Action Congress of Nigeria (CAN) and the All Nigeria Peoples Party (ANPP), at the Government House, Lafia.
Al-makura stated that as a mark of honour, the state has been chosen to host the first meeting of the 11 governors under the APC, for which he said citizens of the state must be proud, even as he noted that, with the coming on board of the APC, \u201cI will no longer be alone during executive council meetings like before but now have 10 other colleagues to put heads together.\u201d
He noted that with the coming together of the three defunct parties to form the APC, history is being made, with members of the former parties folding into one family, with one destiny, saying that the APC is set to take the country like a storm.
Al-makura hailed the people whose sacrifice and commitment led to the emergence of the APC, a party which he said will salvage the country from decadence and misrule of several years under the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), adding that it is the first time since the amalgamation of Nigeria that independent, corporate entities have decided to dissolve and merge into one indissoluble entity.
\u201cAPC has come into being because of patriotism and the need to redirect the affairs of the country through visionary leadership, entrench true democracy and save Nigeria from people who do not mean well for the country\u201d, Al-makura stated.
\u201cWe must appreciate the efforts of our leaders at the national level, particularly the Joint Merger Group, for making it possible for the APC to be registered. No exercise has been so fundamental, so far reaching and so enduring like the merger\u201d, he said.
He urged APC supporters to go back to the grass root to sensitize and mobilize support for the party, stressing that with the merger of the three former parties, \u201cwe have no apprehension in APC even if the council election holds tomorrow.\u201d<\/p>\n
