Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babatunde Fashola (SAN) and Oba of Lagos, Alaiyeluwa Oba Rilwanu Babatunde Akiolu I, have again warned all traditional rulers in Lagos State to steer clear\u00a0 of land grabbing or settling disputes relating to land by force through the use of dangerous weapons.<\/p>\n

Oba Akiolu, who is the permanent Chairman of Lagos State Council of Obas, had in February this year, warned all traditional rulers in the state to desist from getting themselves in disputes relating to land.<\/p>\n

Oba Akiolu has also warned all those dropping his name as having interest in various disputed cases relating to land to desist forthwith or face the full weight of the law.<\/p>\n

The Lagos monarch was reacting to recent publications, especially an advertorial in the Tribune of last Thursday, August 1, 2013 and The Nation Newspaper of Friday, August 2, 2013 at page 61, where some people were alleged to be dropping his name over certain disputed land at Park View Estate, Ikoyi, Lagos State.<\/p>\n

In a related development, Governor Fashola in a letter addressed to Oba Akiolu with the title: \u201cIncidence of land grabbing in Lagos\u201d, called on the monarch to \u201cquickly address this emerging trend with a view to nipping it in the bud promptly.\u201d<\/p>\n

Fashola in his letter, said his attention had been brought to high incidence of armed land grabbing and attempts to settle disputes relating to land by force through the use of cutlass, machetes and other dangerous weapons in various communities,\u201d in the state.<\/p>\n

\u201cI am therefore writing to enlist your support to urgently convene a meeting in collaboration with the Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs and all Obas in the state, the Commissioner for Rural Development, Permanent Secretary, Lands Bureau, all local government chairmen and chairmen of Community Development Association,\u201d Fashola urged Oba Akiolu.<\/p>\n
