The Movement for the Actualisation of the Sovereign State of Biafra, MASSOB, yesterday said it has taken the case of the 49 corpses found floating on the Ezu River in Anambra State to the International Court of Justice, ICJ.

This was even as it has denounced a reported curse on officials of the Abia State government by one of its members, insisting that the action was very embarrassing and unfortunate, because such action was not part of the training inculcated in the members.

Speaking in a telephone interview, the National Director of Information of MASSOB, Uchenna Madu, said the group was not up in arms with any South- East government, stressing that the movement was not in a position to assess any government “because we are more concerned with our agitation for the creation of the Republic of Biafra through non-violent activities.”

According to Madu, MASSOB had worked out procedures to reach out to the various governments in the South-East to intimate them of any observation, but that such would not be through newspaper publications or placing curses on officials of government.

“We are not in position to place curses on government. We respect our elders; that is one of the major tenets in Igboland. Our leader, Chief Ralph Uwazuruike, did not train us to place curses on leaders. We can never create such negative impression to our enemies as if we are quarrelling in Igboland.”

The national information director said other groups had never come in public to quarrel with their governments or place curses on them, saying that MASSOB had no quarrel with the Abia State government and that the ‘curse issue’ was misplaced and unwarranted.

“We have mutual respect for governments of the South-East, especially Governor Theodore Orji, but what we advised is that they should improve in the areas where the people were still yearning for attention, even as he agreed that everything would not be done in one day.”
