Governor Umaru Tanko Al-Makura of Nasarawa State yesterday asked Muslims to adhere to the lessons of piety, obedience and sacrifice which the Ramadan symbolises.

Al-Makura spoke in his Sallah message to the Muslims across the country in commemoration of this year’s Eid- El-Fitr celebration.

He urged them to be tolerant and always exhibit love to promote the nation’s peace and harmony.

In a statement issued by his Chief Press Secretary, Iliyasu Ali Yakubu, in Lafia, the state capital, the governor said: “What the nation needs at this crucial stage of its development is committed leadership driven by honest and open desire to lead the country out of its present sociopolitical dilemma.

“Islam teaches peace, good neighbourliness and kindness. So, followers should therefore use this occasion to promote the virtues of love, understanding and respect for one another at all times.

“I urge that we should also sustain our prayers and commitment for the peace, progress, unity and development of Nasarawa State in particular and Nigeria in general. I must also remind us all that during festive periods like this, our roads will be busy with human and vehicular traffic, therefore, road users should drive cautiously and obey traffic regulations to avoid accidents.”
