The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria, FAAN has announced that airline offices located at the second floor of the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos are being relocated to the upper floors of the terminal, as part of the on-going remodelling exercise at the airport.

It will be recalled that the Managing Director of FAAN, Mr. George Uriesi held a meeting with the relevant stakeholders affected by the relocation at which he informed them about the need to relocate the affected airlines, long before the relocation exercise.

At the meeting, FAAN discussed ways to ease the movements of the affected airlines, the representatives of which also made inputs on the movement.

According to a statement by the FAAN General Manager Corporate Communications Yakubu Dati, “The planned relocation of the airlines offices will pave way for the expansion of the E and D fingers at the terminals, to achieve a 25 % increment in the operational floor area”.

“This will also help increase the number of check-in counters to 40 and the Immigration counters to 40. At present, the airport has a total of 16 Immigration counters. Arrangement has also been perfected to readjust the design philosophy to accommodate more commercial offerings, so that both travellers and customers will be housed in a more comfortable and soothing environment.

“It is to be expected that the amount of work to achieve our remodelling goal will definitely affect the services of airlines which offices are located in this area, just as other stakeholders were affected when the remodelling project was taking place at other sections of the terminal. This is moreso for a remodelling exercise of this magnitude which takes place without shutting down operations at the airport, which had suffered four decades of neglect” the statement read.

The Airport Authority also noted that it “regrets any inconvenience that would be caused airline operators and other airport users affected by the relocation exercise which would be carried out in a professional and efficient manner, to minimize discomfort”.
