News reports out of Maiduguri, Borno State, late Monday evening indicated that 44 worshippers were killed in a dawn attack at a mosque in Konduga, 35 kilometers away from the Maiduguri city.

Borno State is one of the 3 states that was placed under emergency rule, by President Goodluck Jonathan.

The attack according to news reports took place during dawn prayers on Sunday morning, however the embargo on GSM services ensured that news of the attack emerged on Monday.

Since 2009 Boko Haram has waged an insurgency that has killed thousands of people; however as at the time of filing this report the group had not claimed responsibility for the attack.

Four members of the Civilian JTF, a vigilante group set up to aid the military in fighting the insurgents were also killed in the attack,

Earlier on twelve other people were killed at Ngom village, the JTF, state and federal governments were yet to respond to the attacks as at news time.

Sheikh Abubakar Shekau had earlier claimed the string of attacks on security formations in the state that occurred recently.
